When a cough means pneumonia

A 2-year-old girl came into my office last week and before I even went into the exam room I knew she was sick. She was coughing nonstop, literally. In the five minutes or so between when she was brought into the room and the time I walked in, no more than 20 seconds had passed without a dry hacking cough. Poor girl.

She had been up for the previous two nights coughing like she was in the office, not eating much, feverish and much quieter than
